Fitness Should Be Fun

If you are like me chances are you don’t enjoy doing things you don’t like to do. If it involves sitting down, looking at numbers, and talking to my accountant I am out! Despite my procrastination, there are activities I understand have to be done or else my life will suffer.

For many people, working out can feel like doing their taxes. They dread it even though they know it has to get it done and worse yet, fitness needs to be done multiple times a week and not just once a year.

As adults, we have endless responsibilities that leave us little time for play and when we do have extra time we need to fill it something that lights us up and replenishes our energy.

Most people I talk to struggle to stick with a fitness routine because they don’t have fun while doing it. At Arsenal, our goal is to not only make sure you’re having fun but to make the hour you spend with us the best hour of your day. We want you to WANT to come back tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day.

So how does a fitness routine become fun?

  1. Find a coach. Find someone who understands you and who you can relate to. You’re going to be spending a lot of time with this person and everyone must be on the same page. All the fitness instructors I know (or at least the ones at Arsenal) are all loving, caring, and empathetic people who want nothing but the best for their clients and know it’s important to build a strong personal relationship with them.
  2. Make sure you have a plan. Most people go to the gym without any idea of what they should be doing or how they should be doing it. When beginning a fitness routine it’s important to understand exactly where we are starting from and where we want to go. Once those two factors are determined we can begin to fill in everything in the middle. Not sure how to bridge the gap? Hopefully, you followed ‘Step 1’ and found a knowledgable coach who will fill it for you.
  3. Find others to go on the journey with you. The path to health and fitness is a long one. It’s not going to happen overnight and it can get lonely if you’re by yourself. Your coach will be with you every step of the way, but you’ll need a support system of peers who are going through the same struggles you are. People you can lean on and talk to when times get tough.
  4. Don’t do it for anyone else but yourself. We have so many external pressures in life. If we begin to work out and eat healthy for someone else or because we think it’s what we are supposed to do we’ll never truly enjoy the amazing benefits this journey can bring.
