2019 Arsenal Intramural Open

Our goals at Arsenal are to educate and inspire. Competition helps with the ‘inspire’ part: the pressure to perform pushes you to train harder; the social boost of dozens of your best friends cheering for you will help you reach a higher plane. Heck, watching your teammates GO is inspiring.

Every year (This year twice!), CrossFit HQ runs a five-week event called “The CrossFit Open“. As always, we take the idea and make it our own. We’re not interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, level up your life, and get 1000 high fives from the Arsenal family.

Can we bring that worldwide thrill home? Can we deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks? We think so.

The Intramural Open is our annual tradition at Arsenal (and copied by thousands of other gyms worldwide!)

We’ll divide you up into four teams, each with a Team Captain and a funny name.

You can earn points for your team by participating, attending Friday Night Lights, placing top 3 in an event (RX or Scaled), and showing the most spirit during events.

EVERYONE who signs up to participate will be drafted to a team.  You have up until February 21 to register; however, we ask that you sign up before Feb.4 so that we can get teams created!

We want EVERYONE to sign up this year; are you really going to say no? I don’t think so.

REGISTRATION

POINTS

+1 Point – Attending Friday Night Lights.  (Each year will run the announced workout from 6pm til everyone finishes and have food and drinks afterwards.  It is the most electric and motivating environment you can ever imagine!)

+1 Point – Completing the workout: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at Arsenal each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!

+3 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at Arsenal for each workout (Rx and Scaled) gets an extra 3 points for their team.

+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.  Creativity wins!  This will be decided via Facebook poll each week in the Arsenal Crew.

WORKOUTS

The Open will have five workouts.  As usual, you can be tested at any CrossFit Group time on Fridays during the Open. You can just show up at any group time at Friday to test. Your membership gets you into the tests (they’re just like regular workouts, but more challenging and fun.)

A mystery “6th event/outing” will be announced for exclusively for all participants in the Arsenal intramural open!

PREPARATION

For most of our members, the Open is an annual measuring stick to test their improvements in fitness.

Our programming will make a slight shift during those five weeks to get you READY for the demands competition!

Nervous about specific areas and want to zone in before the open starts?  Our Individualized Training Plans are the perfect way to improve your gymnastics, improve your strength and lifts, or get extra cardio in is we don’t fall off at the end of workouts!  More concerned about nutrition and recovery?  Our 4 and 6 week nutrition program is timed out perfectly to have you peaking for the open.  Send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions or want to get signed up.

 Our focus is on FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and it will get you high-fives and you’ll be happy and love life more and glow and have a beer with pals and lots of other stuff.
