Alex Glibert: Evening The Playing Field

IMG_0567

As a way to change things up this Summer I decided to leave Ohio, where I’m from and attending college to live with my sister here in Pittsburgh. I had been looking for a gym in the area to keep me in shape for soccer season in the Fall. My sister saw a post on NextDoor about Arsenal Strength and I figured I’d come check it out.

My first impression was that it was very tough, but I loved the challenge! I have always been in great shape because of soccer, but I wasn’t use to working out in a circuit and doing exercises back to back like you do in CrossFit. Since my first day I’ve grown to enjoy it even more. I love the mix of running, Olympic lifts, and bodyweight exercises and it seems there is always something new to learn. Because there is so much variation the playing field is really even. I’m a great runner, but I’m not very strong. So anytime there is running in the workout I do great, but the big guy who is stronger than me might not be able to keep up!

My favorite memory so far has been completing the workout ‘Murph’ on Memorial Day. When I first saw what the workout was I thought there was no way I’d be able to do it all and I really had to push myself. It was an absolute killer, but a lot of fun!
